Today has been a very interesting day! It has literally been chucking it down man! Absolutely contrasting to the ideal Summer day. So, unfortunately, I am arrested in my house with lights and my face stuck to my laptop’s screen. The reason I say this is because fortunately, our family has been able to go out to a park walk every weekend for almost over 6 weeks now. And it’s been amazing. I am now almost expecting a park visit every weekend as a habit. And now the rain has predetermined the consequences… If you’re wondering, I don’t believe in fate.
Have we forgotten the most important thing – life?
During our visits, I have been able to divert my attention completely from my work and from all the upcoming activities I have. It’s been a relieving experience and more importantly, I get some fresh air and time with my near and dear ones. What more could you want? This brings me to my main argument for today. We’ve forgotten about ‘life’. I don’t classify that everyone is in this ‘well’ that we’re trapped in because I know that there are many adventure-seekers, creative artists, and sports personalities who have climbed out of the well to get out of the ‘cage’ we’ve trapped ourselves in.
If you haven’t gathered, I am going to use a lot of metaphors today.
I feel that with the civilisation we’ve cultivated, we’ve also seeded many constraints for ourselves with strict systems and expectations. We are trapped in school and work almost throughout the year and for the sake of taking a break, we go somewhere during the holidays. But do we actually take a ‘break’ in our holidays? The systems we’ve cultivated and the different options and possibilities have made it easy for you to grab your laptop and attend a meeting or make some business phone calls from anywhere in the world. In a world like this, how do we truly switch off from our work?
We can’t keep working! Life isn’t about that! Work helps with making some money to pay your bills and to contribute a little to human development. I definitely agree that if it’s something you’re passionate about and enjoy, it’s great! But everything has a limit, right?
What is life about?
My definition of life would be to experience every moment to the very breath. And sadly, I don’t do this myself. And I’m not going to fully blame the systems we have because I know that even I get carried away with work or just lazy scrolling through the phone. But I see every second as an opportunity to experience life. It’s a chance for us to feel the essence of this ‘adventure’ we’re living in.
We are surrounded by human creations everywhere. And human tools are extraordinary. The amount of advancement we’ve been able to foster is impossible to put in words. Although, some tools can, unfortunately, lead people into the hampster trap where you endlessly use them but never break out to experience the real purpose of life.
No matter how many tools we make for ourselves, we are here to actually experience what life is. We are surrounded by Nature which is astronomically older than us. Why don’t we step out into Nature more and learn from it? Why not explore deep oceans underwater, discover the towering peaks of the world, unravel the vibrant colours that Nature has to display and decipher the hidden mysteries of the universe? When can we create time to do all of this when we’re too busy trapping ourselves in our own little cages.
When I say this, I am not speaking to those who, as I mentioned, are thrill-seekers in life. But many of us are hidden from seeing the bigger picture that we only have one life! We got to live it to our maximum! Ask yourself, ‘what’s the worst thing that can happen if I missed a day at school to discover the energetic garden behind the school?’ Let’s inspire more people to go out and explore life! Yes, it’s important to work and do what you enjoy and create a stable source of revenue so that you can actually pay your bills, but I think that we should all seek for adventure a little bit more. Exhausting your life with work so that you can get promoted or get the first rank in your exams isn’t necessary. If you are aspirational for that particular task, that’s completely fine because ultimately, you should chase your dreams! But I believe we should encourage more people to get out there and explore!
My simple point is that you have one life man, make it an adventure! Just imagine how much there is. This planet is ridiculously packed with energy. Everywhere you go there’s a beauty hidden, waiting to surprise you.
First world problems
For the sake of disclaiming this, I do admit that all of these problems are first world and every time I talk about them, I am reminded of the 10% of the population who live in poverty and unfortunately have other far more severe problems. Despite the huge amount of development we’ve made, we have created systems that are not giving enough priority to help the dearest thing to us – people. Talking to people, spending time with Mother Nature, cherishing adventures, unravelling hidden mysteries – this is what life is about right? Why are we not giving it as much importance as it deserves?
My heartfelt wishes and thanks go to those who are giving birth to companies and organisations to help people improve and are focusing on erecting meaningful and adventurous experience of life. My message would be to live like it’s your last chance to do something! Go crazy with your passions, go wild with your discoveries, make some noise here and there, meet new people and create new connections, travel the world and enjoy this gift of an experience you have(which is an insanely rare probability).
