Another exciting adventure startled my family and I along with our friends in delightment. We approached Wales on Friday 9th of September 2017, in a very enthusiastic tone to have fun trekking to the freezing peak of Mt. Snowdonia. My initial thought was that I would finish it in 3 hours at tops (fairly easy). So with no more distractions we cracked on. Our first steps bumped with rigid rocks and wet puddles, with the company of the cool breeze zooming past us without notice. The sun stealthily started to peak down at us with all its sunlight, even with the clouds blocking it.
My uncle pointed out the mid point with unfamiliarity. About 20 minutes into our expedition, which was where we presumed that the midpoint was located, we saw a man with a backpack and a jacket with 2 hiking sticks held in his hands. The first thought that flashed to me, was, Is this seriously halfway? Our uncle questioned the man, ‘Are we halfway through the trek?’ The man paused abruptly for a humorous laugh, symbolizing that we were nowhere near it.
I noticed one difference as we continued – the steepness increased. Light drops of water started to tickle my skin giving early signs towards rain! A few minutes drove away as we reached a sight seeing area. Luckily with the sun so bright our frowns turned up-side-down. We took some quick pics as we waited for our parents, who were lacking behind us walking in a relaxed manner. The same steps rode me towards the unvisited sceneries of mother nature at it’s best.
After a few long-lasting minutes, we claiamed to our uncle that our friend, brother and I can fight to the peak by 1 hour with no breaks, in the extremely cold weather. The challenge begun. Only in a matter of minutes we could see that they were out of sight. We still trugded our way to the top. Then we came across a mini waterfall pouring down the side of us, almost being able to slide us away. It was fairly steep as well as slippery. The moment we escaped out of that obstacle, I turned around and saw our uncle in the distance. Immediately, I knew that either our consistency dropped or their speed increased.
I’ve never seen what was inside a cloud or what it was even made off. My questions were all answered in a click as I touched a cloud for the first time of my life. A short drizzle started suddenly. My brother instantaneously tripped and took a hit, as he adored the hillside. It was just a little scratch though. We took a little break and decided to have some refreshments to fill our stomaches up. I could see our uncle arriving towards us rapidly. The three of us continued our journey.
Passing through the moist rocks and the crisp clouds, my brother and friend decided to prolong and wait for the others since, their radius was still in our range. My ambition was to accomplish the trek by the time they made it to the top. That wasn’t the case. I tried to go by myself which got really monotonous after a good 10 mins so, I chose to come to a halt until they appeared.
We kept on hurdling through the stumbling rocks, as we approached to what seemed to be very close to the peak. I felt a dramatic change in the weather and the wind, which thrusted onto our faces at a speed of approximately, 27mph. The thought of hurricane Maria, which had wind speeds of 70mph, came to my mind.
The lighting seemed to gradually get more faint; sooner I saw nothing but some wet, slippery rocks and ashes of fog in front of us. The coldness up in the mountain was extreme that small particles of frost grabbed on to our clothes and even our facial hair! Still passing through the wind surge I could see a large piece of rock facing upwards. It appeared to be the… PEAK! In exhilaration I waited for the others to catch up. I calmly ran up the little staircase which led up to the Cold Summit of Mt. Snowdonia.
Finally, we arrived at our concluding destination with amazement. It felt like the wind grew immensely.
Now I can say I’ve climbed up Mt. Snowdonia.
On our journey back down we chose to divert our path to change our experience slightly. Taking some more memorable pictures as we exited our exciting adventure, we decided to take a minuscule breather near a huge lake that we skipped stones and threw rocks in. We weren’t finished yet. We then crossed over a lot of rough and bumpy rocks, as we exhaustedly made it through the dark but sunny evening in an everlasting 7 hours period.
Overall, I allured my whole adventure on that day along with our friends and family, for the long-lasting 7 hours of absolute fun. I would recommend treks like this one, for partners or groups as it makes it increasingly enjoyable. For sure I can say I had one of the most surrpasing and tiring days of all and wish to have another one just the same; maybe more superior!
