Have you ever wanted to go up high into the sky, and just feel a cool breeze pumping right at your face? Well, when I was about 10 years old I was wondering how people found it so fun going on roller coasters or doing thrilling activities, when really they are one of the most terrifying things to do in the universe. But after about one year I thought to myself, if they can do it, can’t I?
Journey to the Top
Our departure was located near the colossal Jungfrau Mountain. I could see the bright white snow, appealing to my eyes, extending the boundaries of my sight. I already felt a shiver of excitement travelling through my spine. We proceeded on our journey, with seven other passengers including my brother and father, on a mini bus to the departure. The journey lasted for twenty minutes; I saw breath-taking sights of the Alps. One of the pilots talked us through the safety briefings.
Departure site
Taking off
We finally reached our destination. The land was slightly steep and flat. The site we went to jump off from towered up to approximately 1500m above sea level. I couldn’t really see the view that I’ve been waiting for. My pilot’s name was Dani. He adjusted everything so that we were prepared to go on our crazy and mind-blowing journey. Then he came over to me and gave me a jacket and harness to put on myself. Everything was set. I saw some people take off. The time to fly had approached. My heart-beat was raising exceedingly. Not because I was scared but because I was so excited. It was now me and my pilot to take off…
Breathtaking View
To take off you need to gain some speed. To do this you have to start running really fast. So the pilot told me, “RUN!” I made my move. I felt like the parachute was dragging me backwards. I still kept running for dear life. It looked like I was in search of something or it was a deep desire for me. My right foot seemed to paddle away from the ground. Then my left foot rose up in the same way. Then I realised both my feet were off the ground, floating in the air like planets which float up in space. Then I raised both my arms up so I was flying like an eagle.
Drifting through the air
Everything was right below me. It felt like I was on top of the world. Well, we were on top of the world. We were elapsing to our landing site. I didn’t feel like getting off the parachute. But before we landed, I asked Dani to perform some crazy tricks or what they called them, “Bingle bingles!” He held the go pro on one hand and pulled a trigger with the other. Without knowing what he was going to do, I just sat back and rejoiced the beautiful view. We seemed to tilt about 100 degrees clockwise then we bevelled anti-clockwise about 120 degrees. All I felt was the excitement that rushed at my face.
Woah, high in the sky
Landing
We soon approached near the landing site, despite my feeling of staying up in the sky forever. The wind was still thrusting at my face increasingly as we descended. We were now about 2 meters from the ground. I put my right foot down and tried to stand up as the pilot told me to. We finally came to a complete stop. I couldn’t stop thinking about how thrilling the journey in the air was.
After we finished we also bought some video and photo footage of us enjoying our experience.
Overall it was a fantabulous experience!
