The first thing that strikes my mind when I think of Bibury is pleasantness. The traditional houses, soothing sounds of the streams, frosty wind and the narrow roads all add to the feeling. As we were entering the village, it was evident that we arrived somewhere unique, somewhere to explore the differences.
We drove for almost 2.5 hours from our house(with a break in between) and knew we had arrived based on the unique scenery. Along the journey, we stumbled across vast lush greenery, masses of leafless trees with owls wilting on the branches, and endless countryside roads. Despite the discomfort from the narrow roads, the landscape(and obviously some songs) partnered us throughout the way.
At our arrival, the most distinct feature of Bibury was the combination of traditional houses amid Mother Nature. The landscape was as if pictured in those photo cards which seem like other-worldly locations. From a distance, the view could leave you glaring for extensive amounts of time.
We passed the transparent cerulean ford which had premature vegetation growing near the banks and lumbering ducks too. Then we wandered towards an inclined roadway which held some primordial cottages along its route.
The cottages were generally 2 floors with depleted canary bricks for the bottom floor and black tiles for the roofs. The windows had lots of muntins, the doors held traditional handlebars, the walls were enclosed by creeper plants and the roofs emerged with mossy dormers and noticeable chimneys. Despite the caducity of the cottages, together in huddles, they looked nice!
As we walked up the tapered roadway, we observed a royal mail van cruising down the road as if it was a motorway; the drivers here were clearly experts. We continued exploring the place and noticed a similar theme throughout the area except with increasing woodland of leafless trees and dead bushes.
This bring me onto the weather. Bibury is certainly ecstatic to visit any time of the year, however, the Autumn and Winter months illustrate serene scenery that you can’t shun. At our presence(December time), the azure acres above were mostly covered in white hue clouds, the frosty wind bit our skin and the temperature feel right down to 3℃; we were prepared with multiple layers of clothing.
Bibury offered a perfect start to our morning. The picturesque scenes and beautiful colours still play in the back of my mind. Despite being a small village, it has attracted masses of visitors and continues to! Personally, I felt closer to Nature and it certainly gave me a break from the routine life. I’ve been bought by Bibury and now it’s time for you!
