KARSID’s Favourite Airlines

, , ,

I love travelling, and I guess many others do too. However, there is no destination without a journey and that’s where flights come in. These magnificent machines can stretch you from anywhere in the world, while you enjoy the cool refreshments, spectacular landscapes, vast range of movies and games and finally, wanting to get out to get a breath of the fresh air in a destination to create new memories. All these are components to make your journey comfortable, so now the question is, what airline do you choose? Well, here’s a list of our favourite airlines…

Disclaimer – We’ve only been on a few airlines; this blog focuses only on the economy class.

Domestic Airlines(close distances):

Ryanair

Blue & yellow! In Ryanair’s flights, you are sure to not miss these colours. In fact, the particular reason for the blue theme is that it’s known to be a calming colour. Therefore, you can observe that Ryanair is not the only airline to have blue but many other airlines follow a similar pattern. However, this calm won’t last too long because in most domestic flights it becomes hard to sit on the same seat continually looking ahead at nothing but boredom(for me at least). Though, if it’s a journey lasting 1-2 hours I guess it’s manageable.

Blue and yellow!

Currently, Ryanair only operates the Boeing 737-800 which is good enough, except for the typical short space between each seat which I feel is experienced across all domestic flights. Other than that, I’ve not had many complaints flying with Ryanair. Therefore, I would highly recommend it, especially for frequent flyers because out of the many domestic airlines, Ryanair is a very budget-friendly option in general.

easyJet

eastJet is slightly more expensive than Ryanair yet a somewhat more comfortable experience. It’s known to be the rival competitor of Ryanair. Which may be why the colour theme is the complete opposite with white and orange, but hey, that doesn’t mean you won’t be calm. Unlike Ryanair’s small fleet of aircrafts, easyJet has a wider variety, with Airbus 319, 320, 320neo and 321neo despite easyJet being introduced to the aviation industry after Ryanair.

The customer service is also something to mention. I felt that the service was quicker than Ryanair. For me, the extra price you pay for easyJet grants access to the slight more comfort hence, it would be my go-to over Ryanair. Oh, you gotta try the expensive yet delicious food available nice and warm; I particularly liked the margarita mini calzone. Compared to Ryanair’s food I found that easyJet offered better options.

International Airlines:

British Airways

It has been a while since we’ve flown with this airlines but from what I can recall, it surely didn’t disappoint. A key aspect which I felt was particularly perfect with this airline was the food. It may seem minor but it plays an important role in the journey. Especially, for vegetarians, because there was a wide range of decent food available. Additionally, there are many different movies and games which you can engage yourself with.

With British Airways having one of the most modern and largest fleets in the world, you are sure to get the perfect experience. If you are lucky enough to get into an Airbus A380-800, you are in for a treat. In my opinion, they are one of mankind’s greatest creations carrying the most amount of passengers while providing a smooth ride. Therefore, if I were to go for a long-distance journey, British Airways would definitely be my first preference because it’s a very complete experience starting from the wonderful cabin crew to the vast range of entertainment available within the flight.

Fly Emirates

Wonderful service, great entertainment and a vibe of luxury. What more could you want? Moreover, as we travelled to India (which is a long-haul journey) we are more likely to travel in an Airbus A380-800. With luck favouring our side we managed to attain the comfort of travelling on the double-decker, which was undoubtedly the best flight experience of my life.

More legroom you say? Well, Airbus A380 has got plenty of that but not when you are trying to sleep. I bet everyone has been through the constant shuffling here and there to find the perfect position to sleep, which is nowhere near perfect but still something. However, the Airbus A380 gives some extra comfort for stretching.

Additionally, the Emirates flights are suited up with ICE (Information. Communication. Entertainment) which is an astonishing entertainment system with many cool features and a wide range of movies. Moreover, there are live cameras outside the plane which capture the surrounding view. This can be easily accessed by passengers with just a touch. Even with many great features, I had some trouble. It was the provided headphones which strained my head and were also very loose causing them to constantly fall off.

Generally, when flying with Emirates for long-haul journeys there would be a layover so you’d see yourself at the hub of Emirates, which is the Dubai International Airport(DXB). This airport is extremely well designed and it felt like home to me. You can have a pick from 100s of food outlets, visit the countless shops and tech stores(definitely my favourite), or you can just comfortably lay back and shut down for a few minutes in the surprisingly quiet atmosphere of the 5th busiest airport in the world(2019).

Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways is another airlines with the birthplace as UAE. Like Emirates, Etihad also has a hub which is located in the Abu Dhabi International Airport. Anyway, as you enter the flight, you are pleasantly absorbed by the soothing music in the background. Throughout the flight, the gentle music clumsily plays on and, as much as it relaxed me, it eventually got on my nerves as it was on repeat. Leaving aside the music, the luxury aspect of both Etihad and Emirates are excellent. After all the UAE is essentially one of the ambassadors of luxurious countries among many.

Luckily, we got to venture on the Boeing A380-800 again, yet somehow I felt that legroom became a problem. The headrest was also an issue because they were in a fixed position disabling the ability to move it up and down. Moreover, the entertainment system was below expectation because it was a smaller screen and lacked a smooth user experience. However, a positive to note of the journey was the food, because there were many varieties of reasonable food.

Like Emirates, there is a layover for Etihad as well. This is in the smaller yet beautifully designed Abu Dhabi Airport. Personally, I preferred the Dubai Airport as it had much more to explore. Moreover, flights travelling via or from Dubai are cheaper than Abu Dhabi International Airport, hence in general Emirates is cheaper. Therefore, in choosing between the two international airlines within the UAE, I’d go with Emirates.

Jet Airways

I’m disappointed. Nothing went well when travelling with Jet Airways. Each second I was hoping to end my misery by getting off the plane. So you are wondering, it can’t be that bad? Well firstly, the tickets were extremely expensive, however, we did unexpectedly book later than usual. However, when arriving at the airport boarding was surprisingly speedy but this didn’t mean the flight was departing any quicker. Guess what, it didn’t. In fact, it was delayed by a further 45 mins from the initial time of take off. I blame no one considering we departed from London Heathrow Airport which has excessive air traffic.

Now going inside the flight I could tell the seats were comfortable enough but with insufficient legroom. By squeezing myself into the seat I was getting excited to enjoy some of the films although, for some reason, my screen, alongside many others just decided to be unresponsive. This was not a problem for the first few minutes but throughout the entire journey! So, no entertainment for me 🙁 Another issue was the food. We received the wrong preferred meal and had to wait until everyone has had food so we can receive any ones which remain. Well, they couldn’t leave us hungry so we managed to get through that one.

Finally, amidst not having entertainment for the longest 9 hours of my life, the flight wasn’t at all comfortable. We’d be welcomed to unexpected sequences of bumps which were definitely annoying and discomforting. Overall, I’d say Jet Airways was a monotonous, uncomfortable experience and I hope that if we travel with them again that they can deliver a much better experience.

Flying by plane is always something an individual needs to enjoy, as much as it can be tiring. So, what airline gives the best experience you ask? Well, for close distances it would definitely be easyJet. The journeys with them are always nice and breezy. For international airlines, it’s got to be Emirates for me. There are many positives including the ICE entertainment system, reasonable food, incredible cabin crew and last but not least a comfortable ride. What more could you want?
