On May 26th, our journey was directed by the prolonged roads of UK from south-east to the north-west of England. Our destination was located in the Lake District where the activities can be adventured. My excitement built up; growing faster every second. Then it was the moment where our journey started to the centre of the lake of Windermere…

Getting prepared

I was staring at the bright reflection of water as people kayaked and canoed in the midst of no man’s land(that’s how it caught my eyes, just a plain sheet of water). The instructor gave us a life jacket each, which appeared to be quite thick. If you’re planning a visit to Lake district, I highly recommend you to wear water-proof clothes as you’ll surely get your pants wet, unless you’re a professional who knows how to not get wet. Our kayak was being set up as my brother and I were eagerly waiting for the ride to start.

Starting the 1 hour tour

The whole lake was immense, stretching to around 18.08 km(approx 11 miles). The instructor informed that we weren’t allowed to cross a certain point of the lake, as the strong currents would just drift you away from the restricted area. He gave us a strong push after we settled in the slightly uncomfortable seats. We started off a bit weak as my brother was doing most of the work by swinging the paddle with a possibility of capsizing.

In the midst of nowhere

After a few dry minutes, the fun part was in sight. We were drawing near the centre of the lake. Just as the tides were getting heavier my brother thought of recording from the first-person view after we were halfway into our journey. So, we had to detour our ride and retreat to the starting point. 30 minutes passed away and I was slowly getting used to handling the kayak. Then we reached the centre of the lake, of the restricted area. In the distance were our parents, barely visible, waiting at the shore. In front of us was a stunning view of the mountains climbing up to high peaks.

Almost a capsize!

To conclude our kayak, I thought that it would be fun to shake things up. So, I stood up, whilst my brother looked at me in a nervous manner; then I started shaking the boat. By shaking the kayak; it loses balance, thus leading to a capsize (flipping the kayak up-side-down). Surprisingly, we managed to stay level to the water and didn’t execute a capsize.

My impression

As it was my first ever time doing kayaking, I was completely gratified. Since the second we started our ride, to the last moments of sailing back to the shore my excitement was peaking high. Perhaps I’ve found another category of interest!

The trial of our 1-hour journey in the vast lake in Windermere concluded to give me and my brother a great impression. With many more activities such as cycling and water-skiing to explore you never know the fun lurking in the Lake District.
